Q: please could you tell me how do you paint askirting and door frame when these have allready been stained is the something i paint on the wood before painting it with paint I would be gratefull for any help or tips thanking you - Mark

A: Wood primer is what you need here. Two coats is probably safest. The first coat will probably take on the colour of the stain, but will seal it in. The second coat will make sure that all of the stain stays where it is. Once the primer is dry you will be able to paint over with any normal water-based paint.
