Q: old adhesive has remained on wall after removing tiles. Does this adhesive have to be removed before new tile adhesive is applied or can it be placed on top of it? John

A: With heavy wall tiles or floor tiles you generally want the best possible, hardest wearing join between the wall and your tiles. Removing all the adhesive (and in my case repairing all the damage I did to the walls getting the stuff off!) will ensure that your tiles will all be at the same level and aren't going to fall off the first time you slam a door somewhere.
