Q: after any demand on the system the toilet cistern screams. This can sometimes be rectified by flushing the toilet, but mostly the noise continues at a low pitch. Is there something I can adjust? Chris

A: It could be any number of things, open your cistern up and see if any water is coming from somewhere it shouldn't, and try adjusting any valves you see. The most consistent point for failure in modern cisterns is the plastic tube that stops the water from splashing around, so check this for punctures as well. Any decent DIY store should have replacements for individual components, as most are standard sizes.
