- Get recommendations from friends and family
- Make sure all companies you get quotes from are a member of a recognised ombudsman or other trade standards body
- Get at least three quotes, and remember to check if there is a callout fee before you get someone out
- Get a written quote and make sure all the work you asked to be done is included on it
- Confirm how long the job will take, and how soon someone is available to do it
- Make sure you clearly explain everything that needs doing
